Here’s what’s happening at the Smyrna Public Library.
We are excited to announce the arrival of new books.
In large print, we have “Sting” by Sandra Brown; “The Lady’s Command” by Stephanie Laurens; and more.
In fiction we have “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two.” And in non-fiction, Phil Knight’s “Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike.”
Children’s Story Time returns at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with a visit to the Smyrna Fire Station. On Sept. 30, we will visit the Smyrna Post Office. Children should come to the library first and we will walk as a group to our destinations. There will be a special Saturday morning Story Time with Mother Goose on Oct. 15.
I will present a program to kick off Banned Book Week 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. This annual event is organized by the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. I will read selections from books that have been challenged or banned over the years. The selections will be carefully chosen so that the presentation will be appropriate for older teens as well as adults.
Barb’s knitting group
We had a great group last Tuesday morning. Pat was here working on her loom, Bonnie was making a scarf and Arlene came in for a laugh. Alexis was knitting her scarf and Pam was working on her child's sweater. Jan was busy with her cross stitch project and Julie came from Norwich to share her cross stitch projects. As for me, I am almost done with Logan's afghan.
We received a donation from the family of Catherine Maestro. It is very much appreciated! Pat takes the donated yarn and makes afghans for a nursing home as well as hats and mittens for kids. All donated. And Rose donated some granny squares for an afghan.
We meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the Smyrna library. Stop in – we are a lively bunch!
The library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
