FRANKFORT — The Frankfort Fire Department has scheduled a ceremony for 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Firefighters Memorial Park on Litchfield Street to dedicate a monument being placed in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The monument had not arrived yet as of Tuesday, according to Company President Steve McMurray.

"It’s expected any day," he said.

He added it will at the park to be unveiled on Sunday.

"Then we’ll put it in storage until we can hammer out where in the park it’s going to go," McMurray said.

The area will have to be properly landscaped before it can be placed permanently, he said.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The monument commemorates all of the victims of the attacks with a focus on emergency services personnel who were killed, McMurray said.

The campaign to raise funds for the memorial kicked off with a concert last fall at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds.
