The Morrisville State volleyball team stumbled at first, but got back to their winning ways when they split the final day of their home tournament on Sunday, Sept. 4. The Mustangs dropped the first match 3-0 against Eastern Connecticut State University, but rebounded to sweep Norwich University 3-0 in the second match.
In the first match, the undefeated Mustangs squared off against the also undefeated Warriors from Eastern Connecticut. Both teams battled back and forth, but it was the Warriors who were able to capitalize on eight Morrisville hitting errors to pull away for the 25-22 first set victory.
The second match of the day was much different for the hosts, as they made easy work of Norwich University in the first set, defeating the Cadets 25-8. The Mustangs continued on to defeat Norwich 25-18 and 25-20 in the second and third sets.
For their efforts throughout the weekend, Emilee Niejadlik and Sam Wolf were voted by the visiting coaches to the All-Tournament Team. Niejadlik recorded a team-high 33 kills, while Wolf tallied 59 digs en route to also receiving the Best Libero Award at the tournament.
Next up for the Mustangs is a trip south west as they head over the boarder to Pennsylvania for Penn State-Behrend’s Northwestern Pennsylvania Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10.
