A Utica teen accused of killing a man in August waived his felony hearing Wednesday.

Elijah Brown, 18, is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to the Aug. 12 shooting death of 29-year-old Christopher Bush, of Augusta, Ga.

Brown waived his preliminary felony hearing in Utica City Court Wednesday, according to Assistant District Attorney Joseph Saba. His case now awaits presentation to an Oneida County Grand Jury for possible action.

In a Tuesday press conference, law enforcement said it’s believed that the shooting stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong. It’s alleged that Bush was attempting to trade the younger man money and drugs for a handgun.

Bush was shot on the 1300 block of Brinckerhoff Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 12 before being taken to a local hospital. Lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful.
