The 21st Annual Madison County Hop Fest celebrates the past, present and prosperous future of the hop industry in Madison County and throughout New York State.

The Hop Fest Weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with a four course Paired Beer Dinner at the Colgate Inn in Hamilton. Reservations are required by Sept. 9.

Saturday’s events are from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Madison County Historical Society (MCHS), 435 Main St., Oneida. This year there will be programs about hop culture in NYS; home brewing demonstrations; exhibits on the history of hops; exhibitor booths from hop suppliers, hop farmers, and beer clubs; and more. There is free admission to attend presentations, exhibitors, and vendor booths.

The “Taste of Hops,” a food and beer pairing, is from noon to 2 p.m. Participating restaurants include the Colgate Inn, Empire Farmstead Brewery, Horned Dorset Inn, Madison Bistro, Napoleon's Cafe, No. 10 Tavern, Poolville Country Store, and The Ridge Tavern. Tickets are required.

The crowning of the Hop King/Queen is at 2 p.m. This is followed by the Craft Beer Sampling from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. with over 30 craft breweries participating. Tickets are required for this.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with a Hop Brewery Tour led by Dot Willsey, which begins and ends at the MCHS. Reservations are required by Sept. 9.

The tour includes a visit to four craft breweries - Seneca Street Brew Pub in Manlius, Empire Farmstead Brewery in Cazenovia, Critz Farm in Cazenovia, and Henneberg Brewing Co. in New Woodstock. The tour continues with a visit to Foothill Hops, a family-owned hop yard in Munnsville, and concludes with a final stop at an 1867 limestone English oast house.
