UTICA — The Oneida County Child Advocacy Center has announced the arrest of Utica man for the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old.

Ramon Mercado-Gomez, 37, was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of felony second-degree criminal sexual act for allegedly abusing the juvenile this year at his home, authorities said.

Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Investigator C.J. Paravati and Rome police Det. E.A. D’Alessandro investigated the incident and were assisted by New York State Trooper Ahmed Cardona during an extensive interview at the Utica Police Department.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are likely to be filed against Mercado, authorities said.

Authorities said Mercado was held in the Utica Police lockup overnight Monday and was arraigned Tuesday in Utica City Court.

The alleged victim has been offered counseling through the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, authorities said.
