A Canastota man was charged with a criminal sexual act after a three-week investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Charles Pentland, 44, of Canastota, was charged with felony first-degree criminal sexual act, felony first-degree sexual abuse, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor sexual misconduct and misdemeanor forcible touching, deputies said.

Pentland allegedly subjected a child less than 11 years of age to sexual contact, deputies report.

He was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant and arraigned before the Canastota Village Court and sent to the Madison County jail on $15,000 cash bail/$25,000 secured bond, deputies said. 

He is scheduled to answer to the charges at a later date.

Sheriff’s Investigators were assisted by members from the Madison County Child Protective Services and the Madison County Child Advocacy Center.
