HERKIMER — Assemblyman Marc Butler, R-Newport, has received the endorsement of two public employees’ unions in his bid for re-election.

The Public Employees Federation and the Civil Service Employees Association announced their support for Butler’s candidacy in separate statements.

"We know that you appreciate and value the work performed by public employees in your district and around the state," the PEF said in its endorsement statement. "You also understand the needs of working men and women and their families and support the programs and services that address those needs."

In accepting the endorsements, Butler said, "The PEF got it exactly right. When you get to the fundamental issues, it is always about jobs, improving the economy and providing vital public services."

He added, "I know that our state employees are dedicated individuals and I am pleased and honored to accept their endorsements."

Butler represents the 118th Assembly District, the largest district in the state. It includes Fulton and Hamilton counties, as well as portions of Herkimer, St. Lawrence and Oneida counties. He is facing a primary on Sept. 13.
