The Kirkland Town Library, 55½ College St., is offering the Community Mosaic Project from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17.

All ages are invited to help create a mosaic at the library.

Supplies will be provided but bring along old pieces of china or silver to add to the design. Rain date is Oct. 1.

Volunteers sought

for 9/11 remembrance

The Parkway Center is seeking volunteers to assist with the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center, 726 Washington St.

Volunteers will sort food to stock the food pantry and help complete other projects at the center.

Cancer support forum slated for Sept. 12

The Mohawk Valley Health System’s Cancer Center’s monthly support forum for patients and cancer survivors will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, in the Cancer Center’s Fireplace Lounge on the main floor of the Faxton Campus, 1676 Sunset Ave.

The forum meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

Susan Castilla from Integrative Experience will use therapeutic grade essential oils to demonstrate how the AromaTouch Technique can benefit cancer survivors.

The forum, led by the Cancer Center’s social worker, offers support to anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis.

Meetings cover a wide variety of issues, including how to talk with children about a parent having cancer, financial concerns, physical issues, intimacy issues and nutrition during treatments.

The forum provides a comfortable atmosphere for patients and cancer survivors to come together and share useful information.

Hop Fest paired beer dinner set for Sept. 16

Hop Fest Weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with a four-course Paired Beer Dinner at the Colgate Inn in Hamilton.

The first course is a Pumpkin Ravioli with a spiced sage cream sauce paired with Saranac’s Pumpkin.

The second course is a peppercorn-encrusted Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio with beef braised root vegetables and herb cream cheese paired with Ithaca’s Nut Brown.

The third course is a braised Drover Hill Beef Roast with a local mushroom and parmesan risotto cake, a root beer glace de vin and a gremolata crostini paired with Founder’s Porter.

The fourth course is a S’mores-Chocolate and Graham Cracker Pot de crème, marshmallow and a spiced chocolate sauce paired with Browns Brewing’s Oatmeal Stout.

Tickets for the dinner are $60 and must be purchased by Sept. 9.

Shredding, plastics collection Saturday

The city is conducting a free shredding and plastics collection from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at its Transfer Station, 210 Elmwood Place.

Sherrill residents may bring paper for shredding; there is no need to remove paper clips or staples. Bulky rigid plastics such as beverage crates, totes, garbage cans, clean plastic toys and lawn furniture also will be accepted.

Plastic bags, plastic film, Styrofoam, plastic appliances, vinyl siding, water hoses, toys with circuit boards or battery packs, pool/chemical containers, driveway sealant containers, paint cans and motor oil containers will not be accepted.
